How to Become a Psychologist in British Columbia

Obtain an Undergraduate Degree

Pursue a Bachelor's degree with a focus on Psychology, such as an Honors, Specialization, or Major at one of the following institutions. 

 

University of British Columbia

University of British Columbia Okanagan

University of Northern British Columbia

Simon Fraser University

Trinity Western University'

University of Victoria

 

This will increase your chances of being accepted into a graduate program. 


Obtain a Graduate Degree  

To register as a Psychologist, you need a Doctoral degree (PhD in Psychology or a PsyD. Graduate Programs in BC:


Register as a Psychologist 
 

Register with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.
 

Steps: 

  1. Review of academic qualifications.
  2. Apply for Registration as a Psychological Associate (if applicable).
  3. Complete supervised experience (1-year post-master’s internship, 3 years supervised, and 1 year pre-doctoral).
  4. Pass examinations (EPPP with a scale score of 500, a written jurisprudence exam, and an oral examination).
